The ‘name game’ when it comes to shades of blonde has gotten either out of hand or deliciously accurate, depending on who you ask.
As far as I’m concerned, the names are fun and an easy way to search hashtags when looking for a blonde you want! However realistically you will need a photo or 20 in order to show your colorists exactly what your inspo is.
Here’s some of my favorite and over the top unnecessary names for trending blondes this year:
Old Money Blonde
These shades of blonde I used to describe as “Chloé” blonde, because the fashion brand would always use natural tones/virgin-haired blondes in all of their advertisements and also runway shows. Think ‘Virgin Suicides’.
Basically “Old Money Blonde” is a natural shade of blonde usually donned by a teenager because we all know after early 20’s our hair gets darker out of what I can only assume is a protest against gaining adult responsibilities.

The first pic I would describe as an ash example and the second a neutral-warm.
I could get into an entire conversation about socioeconomic stereotypes that I’m not going to because this is supposed to be fun and light reading lol.
Vanilla Chai Blonde
This tone of blonde is kind of all over the place. I’ve seen tones called vanilla chai ranging from almost a light beige blonde to a darker blonde. However the fact that tones named after food seem to get the most traction, I’d bet that if you search the term vanilla chai blonde you were guaranteed to find something you would like!

I think we can all see the common tones in both of these so far, and I personally love that natural tones are trending. It’s not an easy palette to create so if you find a colorist who can do it well, don’t stray!
Honey Blonde
A tried and true shade of blonde, with many variations, since as we all know, honey comes in so many shades there should be sub-categories for defining this hue!
Part of me thinks it could be confused with a golden blonde but actually a golden blonde would be one of those sub-categories OF honey blonde.

Money Piece
This trend has been unfortunately happening for years now. A thick band of super light blonde or any shade that is at least 3 levels higher than the rest do the hair- usually around an inch wide, it puts the “no” in “not natural”.
I’m not sure how this gained popularity but it has morphed into the “scandi hairline” which I felt the need to define in the last post.
The real reason I bring up the money piece is only two Segway into the announcement of the new and improved money piece…

The Ozempic Money Piece
Apparently I was not the only one offended by a thick band of blonde around the face that shows roots within one week and announces how long it’s been since you got your color touched up every time you put your hair in a ponytail. in order to stay on trend and succumb to what seems to be an epidemic of visible roots, lo and behold. The ozempic money piece hahahaa!
This is a “skinny” version of the offensive money piece. It is the same thing/idea, but is only a centimeter wide instead of an inch or more. Honestly I’ll take what I can get. If I had to back either of these, you know I would have to back the ozempic money piece. 🤣🤣😩
FML.

Okay back to color terms.
Champagne Blonde
Now here’s something I can get behind!
Champagne? LFG!
Champagne blonde is usually a neutral blonde with a warm undertone. I guess maybe picture looking at a glass of champagne? Again, this name can include so many different shades of blonde but it definitely is on the lighter side and I would say more of a basic clean blonde. Back in the day I used the term “champagne blonde” to describe blonde that had kind of a blush undertone to it, but now that so many peachy and pinky blondes have been popular I have stopped using the name champagne to describe anything but a true basic light blonde with undertones of a lemon beigeness.

Golden Blonde
I’m happy to say that this trend of a bright warm blonde has started hitting the streets of Los Angeles.
Not to be confused with a brassy blonde where the hair hasn’t been lifted high enough, this blonde starts out as almost white and has a gloss or tone put over it in order to give a display of glowing gold tones.
Again, this is not an easy shade to get right! There is no way that a brassy tone could ever be confused with something as beautiful as a golden blonde. My beauty school teacher Marilyn is probably so happy right now because I remember I used to get in trouble for toning my own hair ashy lol.

Now that I started this I’m realizing there are so many more trending shades of blonde I want to share about so it looks like I will be posting a part two!!!
See you soon and don’t forget to have more fun! It’s literally your one job as a blonde!!!!
